The Natural World
Being in a peaceful outdoor environment provides a gentle starting point for therapy. The rich sensory experience of the natural world - what you can see, hear, feel and smell - helps anchor you in the present moment. From this grounded place, you can begin to notice and explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences as they arise, in the here and now.
From there, you are supported to connect more deeply with the flora, fauna, rhythms and dynamics of the natural environment as a way of exploring both current and past experiences. A tree may come to represent an important relationship in your life—supportive or challenging; the weather might reflect your inner mood or evoke a significant memory; a bird’s alarm call may trigger a visceral or somatic response. Together, we stay with these in-the-moment experiences and reflect on what they reveal and mean for you and your life experiences.
